Adding Custom Email Address

You can send ScoreApp emails from your own domain instead of the default system email. This requires adding a TXT and CNAME record to your domain’s DNS settings for verification.

STEP 1: Access the Custom Email Settings

  • Log in to your ScoreApp account.
  • Click on your account name on the left, and click Account Settings.

  • Click Domain from the left-hand menu.
  • Scroll down to the Send from a custom email address section.

  • Click Add sender address.
    • Enter:
      • Name (this is the display name your recipients will see)
      • From email address (must be from your own domain)
  • Click Add sender address.

STEP 2: Get Your DNS Records from ScoreApp

  • After adding your sender address, you’ll see a pop-up containing two records:
    • TXT record
    • CNAME record
  • You will now need to add both records to your domain’s DNS settings.

STEP 3: Add the TXT Record to Your DNS

  • Open your domain/DNS provider’s settings (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.).
  • Click Add record and select TXT record.
  • Host name: Copy the “Host” value from ScoreApp and paste it into the Host field in your DNS.
  • Value: Copy the TXT value from ScoreApp and paste it into the Value field in your DNS.
  • Save the record.

STEP 4: Add the CNAME Record to Your DNS

  • In your DNS, click Add record again.
  • Select CNAME record.
  • Host name: Copy the “Host” value from ScoreApp and paste it into your DNS.
  • Value: Copy the CNAME value from ScoreApp and paste it into your DNS.
  • Save the record.

STEP 5: Wait for Propagation (TTL)

In your DNS settings, there’s usually a TTL (Time to Live) field. This determines how long changes take to propagate across the internet.

If you try to verify your domain too soon, it may fail.

Wait at least the amount of time shown in the TTL before attempting verification.

STEP 6: Verify in ScoreApp

  • Return to ScoreApp.
  • Click Verify under your sender address.
  • If verification is successful, you can now send emails from your custom email address.

Troubleshooting Verification

If verification fails after the TTL period:

  • Double-check that the TXT and CNAME records match exactly what ScoreApp provided.
  • If it still doesn’t work, contact ScoreApp Support and provide screenshots of both records in your DNS so we can check them for accuracy.

FAQ

Do I need to manually add an SPF record?

No. The SPF authorization is automatically handled through the CNAME record provided by ScoreApp. As long as the CNAME is added correctly, no separate SPF record is required.

Do I need to add MX records for my custom email address?

No. MX records are only required for receiving emails on your domain. Since ScoreApp only sends emails on your behalf (outbound email), MX records are not needed.

Why don’t I see SPF, MX, or other email records during setup?

ScoreApp uses DKIM verification (via the TXT record) and a CNAME record to securely authorize email sending. This setup is sufficient for outbound email delivery and deliverability, so additional records like MX are not necessary.

What if verification keeps failing after adding the records?

Make sure:

  • The TXT and CNAME values match exactly what ScoreApp provided
  • The records were added in the correct DNS manager (where your domain is actually hosted)
  • You’ve waited for the full TTL (Time To Live) to propagate.

If it still doesn’t verify, contact ScoreApp Support and include screenshots of the DNS records so we can review them.
