Improving Loading Speed
This guide explains why your ScoreApp landing page may show different performance results between desktop and mobile across different page speed tools.
Before We Begin
Before troubleshooting performance scores, it’s important to understand how these tools measures speed:
- Mobile tests in page speed tools simulates a device with 3× CPU slowdown and a 3G connection.
This means even fast websites will often score lower on mobile than on desktop.
- ScoreApp templates are optimized for performance, but mobile versions may include different layout elements (for example, background images or animations) that slightly affect load times.
Why Mobile Scores Differ
The difference in desktop and mobile performance scores is normal and expected.
This happens because:
- Mobile tests simulate slower connections and devices.
- Some templates load different assets for mobile (e.g., smaller images, mobile-only sections).
- External tools like Google Tag Manager (GTM) can also add a small delay, though this is typically minimal.
Even when scores differ, this does not necessarily impact the real user experience, and users usually won’t notice a delay when opening your page.
How to Improve Performance
If you would still like to optimize your speed score, here are a few best practices:
- Compress or resize large images: Use tools to reduce file size without losing quality (like Canva, TinyPNG or Squoosh).
- Avoid unnecessary animations or large background videos: These can slow down load times, especially on mobile.
- Limit external scripts (like GTM or custom tracking codes): Keep them to essential ones only.
